Meridian Media Player

We are taking a look at a bunch of media players for Android this week as most of us Android fanboys and girls know that the media experience on stock Android can be somewhat dissuading. All this Android lover really wants is a media/music application that is polished as well as easy and ready to use. Let’s take a look at one of the “hotter” media players right now, Meridian Media Player Pioneer.
Meridian Media Player Pioneer (MMPP) is a free, “advanced video / music player” for the Android OS. There are a ton of great features on this appliation including, directory browsing and default directory settings, a player queue, video player, and a fully functional music player with artist, album, genre, song, and playlist browsing. The controls are straightforward and browsing through your music library is simple. One thing I like when digging through your library is how when you choose an artist you are presented with their albums in a different screen. This is not at all like the default and I am glad it isn’t, as the Android media player lists the albums underneath the artist when selected.
MMPM also has a wide range of settings to customize your media experience. You can change details about your lists, the button styles, set your default media folders, must your notifications while music or video is playing (an excellent setting), gesture setting, ability to use headphone buttons, last.fm Scrobble, and many others. There are also two homescreen widgets included in the free version, a 1×4 or a 2×4 with 4×3 and 4×4 available in the paid version.
In using MMPM I feel that the all the functionality that I need from a media player is available although there are some small “polish” items may keep me from switching. There are mostly aesthetic, like the resolution of the image assets being to low for newer device and a possible poor choice of green colored buttons. All these things are minor though and completely based on one’s perspective.
